“uniting the world…one song at a time”
MISSION
To assist in the development of models of unity for diverse populations by creating a spiritual atmosphere in which issues of conflict are addressed through frank and honest dialogue, multimedia presentations and artistic expression.
VISION
The OHF Workshops will be an inspirational model for the oneness of humanity in the forefront of evoking social change on a global scale.
INCLUSION & DIVERSITY STATEMENT
OHF does not discriminate as to race, sex, colour, creed religious affiliation or national origin. In fact, OHF strives to be a true representation of diversity by actively seeking to include members of each of the beforementioned groups.
ARTISTIC STATEMENT
OHF Workshops encourages each artist to develop and embrace a powerful vision and nobility in the creation and performance of their original work. Consequently the development of the artistic vision of our artists whether they be children, youth or adults is given primary attention by actively encouraging and acknowledging each artist’s gifts, and openly sharing resources and ideas. As the Negro Spirituals, some of the most noble, powerful and beautiful music created- written by those nameless bards under the most extreme duress- speak of God’s love for all mankind, we desire to inspire that nobility, vision and power in each one of our Artists.
The Use of Music in Building Inspirational Models of Unity.
This workshop will focus on the use of music as an integral not just a peripheral tool for building community. We will examine music as an instrument of Praise, Protest, and Purpose. As an example we will look at African American musical genres ( Spirituals, Gospel, Jazz, Soul, R&B, Hip-Hop) as historical examples of the effectiveness of music in sustaining community, imparting values, and establishing a firm, unshakeable, and purposeful foundation rooted in nobility, self worth, and the principle of the oneness of humanity.
What can we learn from these people that Baha’u'llah referred to as “the Pupil of the Eye” as they struggled to survive under some of the most extreme conditions of duress? What role did creative self-expression play in liberating them and their world from tyranny and oppression?
And finally we will look into how we can implement some of their examples as we move toward reaching the goals set out by the Universal House of Justice while living in a world where the majority of the people on the planet find themselves…as these displaced Africans did…on the underside of history
